Music Ministry Seminar For Camps

For more information, or to register, contact:  Shawn Smith 248-705-7893 or email Bookings@ShawnSmith.com

A 4 Day (3 night) practical seminar led by Shawn Smith and held at Camp Lutherlyn in Prospect, Pennsylvania designed to teach and empower camp counselors and program directors to use music more effectively in the outdoor ministry and retreat setting.

The Three Main Goals of the Seminar

  • Train Counselors and Program Directors How To Lead Music at Camp

  • Share Songs and Ideas With Camp Staffs From Around The Country

  • Enable Campers To Take Songs and the Camp Experience Home With Them

For the past 7 years, Shawn Smith has traveled the country performing at hundreds of churches, youth gatherings, retreats, and camps spreading the Word through contemporary Christian Music as a full-time, professional Lutheran singer/songwriter.  Over the past ten years, Shawn has produced and recorded 8 albums of original music, 2 albums of camp songs, and led music and programming at over 20 Lutheran camps in the Eastern US  (For more information on Shawn & his ministry, check out his website at:  www.ShawnSmith.com)  The one need camp directors and staffs have continually expressed to Shawn over the years, is the need to use music more effectively in the camp setting.  Among the many questions have been:

"How do you lead music at a campfire?"   "How do you play guitar?"
"What songs are best for sing-alongs?"  "How do you lead songs if you can't play guitar?"
"Which songs can you legally perform without copyright infringements?"  "How can I use music effectively in my program?"
"How can campers take the camp experience home with them?"   "Where can my staff go to be trained in camp music?"

Shawn has put together answers to the questions, and a solution to the problem:  A music seminar to train camp staffs how to truly and effectively use one of the most powerful ministry tools the Church has:  Music.  This seminar really works.  How?  By giving you everything that you have asked for in camp music in one, intensive seminar. What's everything? Read on—>

Those who attend will receive:

  • THE SONGS FROM CAMP SONGBOOK-a large print, spiral-bound collection 20 of the most popular camp songs in the country including “Sanctuary”, “Blessed Be”, “I Will Call Upon the Lord”, and “Ah-La-La-La”; all copyrighted and/or used by permission.  Complete with:  Large, clearly printed lyrics, melody line, guitar chords, fret-board diagrams, and pictures of motions—all collected from camp staffs from around the country and compiled by Shawn.

  • SONGS FROM CAMP CD- a professional live recording of 20 of the most popular camp songs in the country, and accompanying CD of every song in the Songs From Camp Songbook.  Performed and recorded by Shawn Smith and about 150 spirited campers from Lutherlyn, with a guitar and keyboard.
  • WORKSHOPS-all designed to offer practical tools to make music ministry more effective in the camp setting.  Workshops offered will include:  Guitar playing-beg. & adv., camp-song singing-beg. & adv., designing and leading a campfire, designing and leading worship and devotions with music, how to rehearse songs with a staff, “do's” and “don’ts” of performing, how to lead and play the "top 10" songs in the songbook, incorporating other acoustic instruments at camp, incorporating music into a camp program, etc..
  • GUITAR LESSONS: for both the beginner and advanced player--yes, even if you've never played before!.  Emphasis will be placed on getting up and running by learning how to play and lead the most popular songs in the Songs From Camp Songbook.  Strum and picking patterns as well as bar chords will also be touched on.
  • SONG SHARE: the opportunity to share songs and ideas with other camps and staff from around the country.
  • HANDBOOK FOR PROGRAM LEADERS: a practical guide designed to help camp directors and program leaders understand the tools and skills the seminar participants have acquired, and aid them in how they might implement some of the music seminar ideas into their program.
  • SONGS FROM CAMP TO SELL IN YOUR CAMP STORE (optional): Perhaps the most exciting music ministry tool of all.  As an optional service, the Songs From Camp CD, cassette, and songbook can be purchased at a wholesale, bulk rate to be sold at your camp store.  (These items can be previewed on Shawn’s website at: http://www.shawnsmith.com/products.htm)
    As Lutherlyn and many other camps have witnessed, selling this CD is an extremely effective ministry tool, and will:
    • Promote your camp and ministry;
    • enhance the camp experience for campers by enabling them to "take the camp experience home" with songs sung at camp,
    • enable youth and staff with a means to remember camp year round;
    • increase attendance of returning campers; and
    • boost camp store and canteen sales considerably, if reasonably priced.

    You can consider this service even if the seminar doesn't interest you.  A minimum package order of 10 CDs, tapes, and songbooks is required to receive bulk-rate price.
