Music Leadership Training For Camp Staffs and Worship Teams

A 1-3 day practical seminar led by Shawn designed to teach and empower worship teams and camp staffs to use music more effectively in the contemporary worship, retreat, or outdoor ministry setting.

The Three Main Goals of the Seminar

• Train Train worship teams and camp staffs how to effectively lead music in worship

• Teach participants at least 10 “hit” songs with which to quickly begin leading

• Share resources, songs, and ideas with other worship teams and staff.

For years, Shawn Smith has traveled the country performing at hundreds of churches, youth gatherings, retreats, and camps spreading the Word through contemporary Christian Music as a full-time, professional singer/songwriter. Over the past ten years, Shawn has produced and recorded 7 albums of original music, 2 albums of camp songs, and led music and programming at over 20 Lutheran camps in the Eastern US. The one need camp and church music directors have continually expressed to Shawn over the years, is the need to use music more effectively in the camp and contemporary worship setting. Among the many questions have been:

Shawn has put together answers to the questions, and a solution to the problem: A music seminar to train worship teams and camp staffs how to effectively use one of the most powerful ministry tools the Church has--Music. This seminar really works. How? By providing a hands-on approach to equipping music leaders with effective, practical tools to lead with.

Those who attend will receive:

• THE MORE SONGS FROM CAMP SONGBOOK -a large print, spiral-bound collection 41 of the most popular camp songs in the country including “Sanctuary”, “Blessed Be”, “I Will Call Upon the Lord”, and “Ah-La-La-La”; all copyrighted and/or used by permission. Complete with: Large, clearly printed lyrics, melody line, guitar chords, fret-board diagrams, and pictures of motions—all collected from camp staffs from around the country and compiled by Shawn.
   
• “SONGS FROM CAMP” and “MORE SONGS FROM CAMP” CD’s - 2 professional live recordings of 41 of the most popular camp songs in the country, and accompanying CD’s of every song in the More Songs From Camp Songbook. Performed and recorded by Shawn Smith and about 150 spirited campers from Pennsylvania and Florida, with a guitar and keyboard.
   
• WORKSHOPS -all designed to offer practical tools to make music ministry more effective in the camp setting. Depending on whether it’s a 1 or 3 day seminar, workshops offered may include: Guitar playing-beg. & adv., singing-beg. & adv., designing and leading worship and devotions with music, designing and leading music for a campfire, how to rehearse songs with a staff, “do's” and “don’ts” of performing, how to lead and play the "top 10" songs in the songbook, incorporating other acoustic instruments at camp, Copyrights 101, PA Equipment 101, Powerpoint 101, Music Resources 101, and more.
   
• GUITAR LESSONS: (3 day only) for both the beginner and advanced player--yes, even if you've never played before!. Emphasis will be placed on getting up and running by learning how to play and lead the most popular songs in the Songs From Camp Songbook. Strum and picking patterns as well as bar chords will also be touched on.
   
• SONG SHARE: the opportunity to share songs, resources, and ideas with other worship teams and camp staffs.
   
• HANDBOOK FOR PROGRAM LEADERS: a practical guide designed to help pastors, worship leaders, camp directors, and program leaders understand the tools and skills the seminar participants have acquired, and aid them in how they might implement some of the music seminar ideas into their program.
